Wonderful Needle Felted Angel of Light

Angel of Light by Barb Sackel featured on www.livingfelt.com/blog

Angel of Light, Barb Sackel, New York

This week we share with you four different artists who have created art works on similar subjects, using four very different approaches to create a 2D work of fiber art.

This wonderful work art is based on a cross stitch pattern – we think it is a brilliant needle felt rendition!

“Done with my second piece. This one was titled angel of light by lavender and lace. It was a Crosstitch pattern. I had some trouble converting the pattern as you can see in the picture.

I used batt, roving, merino top and locks. I used the locks in the ribbon and from a distance it looks like velvet. I wet felted the background with Roving and used Angelina fibers. On to the next……”

Felted Gnome Bottle Topper by Latana Bernier featured on www.livingfelt.com/blog

Check out this awesome Gnome Bottle Topper!

“I just completed this bottle topper so I could use my dog’s fur on something! First of all, I won’t use it any more…the static was so bad I couldn’t even get it off my HANDS! So anyway, I asked hubby to hold it for a photo shoot. I didn’t PLAN on making the gnome look like my husband, HONEST!!!”

Lovely Felted Angelic Tree Topper by Kathleen Dodge-DeHaven

Felted Angel Tree Topper by Kathleen-Dodge-Dehaven on www.livingfelt.com/blog

Kathleen always puts thought and energy into the
tiny details of her work; her care radiates in the grace of
this lovely piece. Visit the blog for more pics (including back)

“Angela” is 14” tall, and is made of wool from our local area
along with wool from Living Felt. Notice her beautiful hair!
That’s Sun Dyed Premium Mohair Locks in Sun Blossom.
And I love the Merino-Cross Fast Felting Batts for achieving
a smooth (and effortless) effect on the wings and the front of the skirt. For the larger areas,
I started with the Clover felting tools; the skirt was then wet felted with the assistance
of LF’s mesh netting and olive oil soap (nice on the hands!).

“Angela” is made over a wire armature, and is finished with hand beading, a vintage rosary,
and a vintage button at the back waist of the skirt. To keep her upright on the treetop,
I made a cone from a flexible cutting board, and covered it with recycled wool felt
in purple to match her overskirt. Notice the crinoline peeking out from under her skirt!

… I love looking at all the work of fellow felters.”

It may now be a little past harvest time, but this lovely lady is a delight in any season! I love the textures – that glitter really adds depth to her. And such lustrous wings! Thank you Lori!

“Here is my Harvest garden angel.  I used NZ Corriedale Camel for her coat.  Her dress is Pebble merino batt.  For the wings I used white merino batt with silk over top of it to give it shine.  I am a basket weaver by trade so I wove a small basket for her to hold and used grapevine for her halo.  Oh,  I used antique gold glitter to give her a little sparkle.  She graces my front living room!”
