Santa Friday- Russian Santa "Ded Moroz"

Wet and needle felted russian santa ded moroz with helper

In Russian culture, they have a version of Santa Claus, named Ded Moroz (translated to Father Frost), who brings presents to children in person at New Year’s Eve celebrations. He is usually accompanied by his granddaughter Snegurochka, or “Snow Maiden.”

Vera Renski, of California, has depicted Father Frost here with his granddaughter companion. She needle felted both of their bodies and wet felted the boots and clothes.

We think she did amazing detail work and it is always nice to learn something new about other cultures!

One of Vera’s first dolls was made from the Living Felt Needle Felting a Doll Kit. (scroll down the doll kit page to see her Japanese doll)

See Vera’s work progress in our archives of past International Felting Contests: 2010, 2011, 2012
